Cookieless conversion tracking: goals, funnels and retention

A bot that fills in your form or lands on your thank-you page counts as a conversion, and your campaigns learn from it. With Klacos, a purchase, a sign-up or a quote request becomes a goal counted without cookies and without bots. You see how many visits get there, where the rest drop off, and who comes back.

The problem

Conversions skewed by bots

A bot that fills in your contact form or lands on your thank-you page counts as a conversion in any tool that only looks at the browser. Your conversion rate goes up, your campaigns seem to work, and your decisions rest on visitors who don’t exist.

You pay for it later: ad budget pushed towards the campaign that “converts” best, a sales team chasing empty enquiries, a page judged a success when it isn’t. And a single overall figure doesn’t tell you where your customers give up: on the product page, in the basket or at checkout.

The problem grows as campaigns become more automated. Ad platforms set your bids from the conversions you send them, so a conversion triggered by a bot teaches them to find more visitors just like it.

What you should expect: goals that are easy to set up, that only count people, and a journey you can follow step by step.

What you get

Conversions that only count people

Your events

Every event your site sends counts as a goal, with nothing to declare in advance.

Page goals

Up to 50 per site, set by a path pattern, such as the thank-you page after an order.

Applied to the past

A new page goal is also calculated across the visits already stored.

Conversions and rates

How many visits reach your goals, and what share of all your visits that is.

One visit, one conversion

A visit that reaches several goals counts once in your conversion rate.

Funnels

Chain the steps of a journey and see where your visitors stop.

Cohort retention

How many visitors come back, grouped by when they first visited.

Without the bots

A visit recognised as automated counts neither as a conversion nor in a funnel.

The sorting comes from the same read of every visit as cookieless analytics: a visit recognised as automated drops out of your conversions, even if it ran your script.

The journey

See where the journey drops off, and who comes back

A funnel chains the steps that matter to you: product page, basket, checkout, confirmation. For each step, you see how many visitors reach it and what share moves on to the next. The step where the curve drops is the one that needs your attention.

Retention groups your visitors by when they first visited and shows how many come back afterwards. It relies on the returning-visitor recognition in your audience figures: nothing is stored on their device.

To your ad platforms

The same conversions, sent to your ad platforms

Your conversions aren’t just for the console. With the server-side tag manager, they go to Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok from the server, and not for a visit recognised as automated. Your ad platforms optimise your campaigns on people.

Goals and funnels are part of the analytics capabilities in Klacos, alongside traffic analysis and cookieless analytics.

Questions

Questions about goals and funnels

Do I need to declare my events in advance?

No. An event sent by your site counts as a goal as soon as it arrives. Page goals are set with a path pattern.

Does a new goal apply to the past?

Yes, for a page goal: it is also calculated across the visits already stored.

Do you track revenue?

No. Goals count conversions, not amounts.

Do my conversions go to my ad platforms?

Yes, with the tag manager: they are sent server-side, and not for a visit recognised as automated, unless you decide otherwise for a given tag.
